A very rare, folio sized, hand-colored copper plate engraving. published as part of Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Herbst series, Versuch einer Naturgeschichte der Krabben und Krebse’ (An attempt at The Natural History of Crabs and Lobsters).
Issued in a series of installments, between cir. 1782 and 1796. These images are considered some of the most spectacular works ever made on crustaceans and possibly the first comprehensive work on the subject.
Guaranteed to be authentic and over two hundred and twenty years old.
