BIOGRAPHY:

Asa B. Strong (c. 1800-1880), American botanist, writer, introduced numerous rare and valuable plants with The American Flora series, also wrote Illustrated Natural History of the Three Kingdoms.

External condition:
Professionally restored and rebound with original ornate gilt boards that are rubbed and moderately chipped in places; reapplied backstrips have some wear and chipping at edges, with decorative gilt designs and title. Page edges are gilt.

Internal condition:
Endpapers and flyleaves are new, in addition to originals. Bindings are tight, a few minor edge chips, creases and small holes. Some tissue-guards are variously creased, foxed, age toned or offset. Plates are mostly quite good, as shown in listing pictures, with some quite clean and others with varying degrees of age tone but very little foxing. Text leaves have occasional foxing.
